For the National Sculpture Prize I decided that I wanted to make a sculpture that would could be activated by anyone that encountered it.
With the sculpture that I completed last year in Latvia in mind –the Roja Rolling Top- I thought it would be interesting to make a sculpture that spun this time rather than rolling around a central axis.
The next step was to create a series of profiles that could be revolved to make a spinning form.
The one that I chose is the second from the left .
Rather than make the sculpture in a single colour, I then decided that I wanted it to have a pattern that might create a blur when spun.
Now I have to make some decisions about how to fabricate not only the form of the sculpture but also the mechanism that will enable the sculpture to spin.
